VERONA, WI – A golf promotion in Wisconsin has not only become an example of the law of unintended consequences, but it also may just be the worst advertisement in the history of the human race.
Well, okay, maybe not the worst . . .
Someone at the Tumbledown Trails Golf Course in Verona, Wisc., came up with the idea of commemorating the twelfth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attack with a special fee of $9.11 for 9 holes of golf and golf cart.
$19.11 for a full 18 holes.
It didn’t take long for ‘teed off’ people to start posting their displeasure on Tumbledown’s Facebook page, causing the owners to post that now they’re worried for the safety of themselves and their staff, and might even close for the day.
They also posted an apology and said that those who signed up can still play for the 9/11 fee. They also plan to donate the difference between their normal rate and the 9/11 special to the 9/11 Memorial.
Who knows, with winter just a few months away, the folks at Tumbledown might want to drum up some business with a Pearl Harbor special.
